We talk about this all the time, but real estate truly is a relationship business. People want to work with people who they know, like and trust. So how do you find more people who know, like and trust you? You have to be able to connect with anyone. Here are 5 ways to quickly connect and begin building that strong relationship.
Make a great first impression.
Research shows that most people decide whether or not they like you within the first seven seconds of meeting you. And then the rest of the conversation is spent internally justifying that initial reaction. To make the most of that seven seconds, focus on your body language – lean forward, make eye contact, use upbeat and positive tone.
Keep the conversations flowing by asking detailed questions to really get to know each other. Nothing too personal, but something that shows you want to get to connect.
It seems simple, but smiling during a conversation can go a long way. Have you ever tried to hold back a smile? It’s nearly impossible – if you’re smiling, the other person will natural smile.
Look for the good in the person.
Based on conversation you might be led to write someone off but restrain. Instead of looking for reasons NOT to like them, focus on reasons TO like them. Beginning with a positive attitude goes a long way with building relationships.
Don’t make it a contest.
Let them share their accomplishments and life experience but restrain from trying to one-up them. This creates the sense of competition and not a true desire to connect.
